I am a 13-year-old swimmer called Emily South. I swim for Cheshunt Swimming Club! I joined Cheshunt about three years ago when I wasn't very good at swimming :( I hadn't done it before but my dad said I could be good as I have the build of a swimmer? I have progressed a lot over the years and now my 50 freestyle time is 30.08 and I'm going for a sub 30 at counties next month. As you could tell my favourite stroke is freestyle and I am going for three regional times this year, my 100, 200, and 400m.
I also do open water and am currently Hertfordshire county champion and 8th in the region. Some people don't like the dirty water but that's the whole point and I find it makes it a lot more interesting. Even though I swim for Cheshunt, I, and at the most one other teammate, have been called up to swim for Hertfordshire against other counties. I've always been chosen to race for 100 free as my time is 1:06.55 and I am hoping to get a 1:05/1:04 at our county championships. I've read this magazine for the past couple of years and I've always wanted to be in it!
PS A big shout-out to all my teammates and coaches for putting up with me over the last couple of years and hopefully for the foreseeable future.
