On Wednesday 19 November three of our top female swimmers will be nervous and excited all at the same time, as they wait to hear if they’ve won an award at The Sunday Times and Sky Sports Sportswomen of the Year Awards 2014.
The Sunday Times and Sky Sports Sportswoman of the Year
Southport swimmer Fran Halsall has had a phenomenal year, claiming two golds and two silvers at the Commonwealth Games, before going one better with five medals at the European Championships in Berlin.
Disability Sportswoman of the Year
Commonwealth silver medallist at Glasgow2014, Para-swimming star Steph Slater went on to impress with an incredible seven golds at her IPC Swimming Championships debut in Eindhoven, not to mention breaking her first world record.
Young Sportswoman of the Year
An incredible six medal haul at the Commonwealth Games has given Siobhan-Marie O’Connor a place on the shortlist for this award, which Fran Halsall won back in 2010. The 18-year-old Bath swimmer swam to 200m IM Gold in a British Record, adding to four silvers and one bronze.
