Describe a typical week.
Each week I do ten swim sessions (approximately 50km per week), as well as three weight lifting sessions, two physio/Pilates sessions and two high intensity VersaClimber circuits.
It's a very busy programme!
When did you learn to swim?
I learnt at my local swimming pool when I was five, but I didn't enjoy it, my first memory is turning my back on the pool in favour of a hot shower!
What is your best moment in swimming?
Being on the podium at the Olympic Games was incredible. It's every swimmers goal and it changed my life.
Also Duel in the Pool 2013 was an amazing spectacle and great fun!
Do you know how many titles or medals you have won?
I've got six medals from major internationals - Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games (two medals), world short course and European short course (two medals).
I’m still chasing a major title!
What is your worst memory in swimming?
Unfortunately it's from Glasgow 2014. I put a huge amount of pressure on myself last season and I struggled to enjoy my swimming because of it.
Also the Olympic trials 2012. There's nothing that can prepare you for the nerves of an Olympic trials. A career worth of work can disappear in a tenth of a second!
What was your first overseas event?
It was a Tri-Nations event, GB vs Canada vs France in 2008 in Quebec.
What are your sporting ambitions?
To be world champion 2015, European short course champion 2015 and Olympic champion 2016, as well as set short and long course world records.
Do you have any brothers or sisters?
I have a younger sister, Lauren, who’s 22 and a professional dancer training at the Urdang dance academy in London. She's amazing!
Do you have any hobbies apart from swimming?
I love keeping up with new fashion trends and new trainer releases. I’m a huge sports fan - football, American football, golf, basketball.
What music, singers or bands do you like?
I love house and techno music. I’ve just begun learning new music software and hope to produce some of my own in the future!
What are your favourite TV programmes?
College American football. True detective was an amazing TV show on last year! Also Family Guy, South Park, The Wire, Sopranos and Entourage.
What was the last film you saw?
The Maze Runner.
What was the last book you read?
The Secret by Rhonda Byrne.
What are your favourite foods?
Roast dinner and porridge.
Do you have a favourite colour?
What’s your favourite holiday destination?
New York City – ‘The Big Apple’.
Do you come from a sporting family?
Dad played semi-professional football and my sister is a professional dancer.
What makes you so good at your sport?
I’m not scared of the work and technique...but just on breaststroke. My other strokes need a lot of work!
Do you have any superstitions?
Just a few deep breaths and a ‘come on' before each race I think, haha.
What is your star sign?
I’m a Leo.
What was your favourite subject at school?
If you were stranded on a desert island, which three things would you most want (apart from a phone)?
My iPod, a football and a Celtic shirt.

A silverback gorilla - king of the jungle.
What is your ultimate relaxation?
Playing golf, making music or going out for dinner.
Any advice for young up-and-coming athletes?
Persevere. If you want to get to the top as much as you say you do, you'll work as long as it takes.
When you think you can't do it anymore, you can. It's worth it!
What’s the last thing you do before a race?
Deep breaths, smile, believe in the work I've done and that I can get the results I’ve trained for.
