The 17-year-old City of Leeds diver was touted as a hot prospect after becoming the youngest ever double national champion, winning both the 1m springboard and 3m synchronised titles at the 2010 British Gas National Cup. In 2013 she won gold in the same two events at the British Diving Championships in Edinburgh, and followed this at the same event earlier this year with the 3m springboard top spot.
Describe a typical day.
I get up at about 7:30am, at 8:10am I go to school and finish at 2:30pm. Then I go straight to diving until 6:00pm. When I get home I do my homework and eat, and I normally go to bed at 10:30pm. I’ve still got 16 exams left for my GCSEs so my homework is mainly revision.
When did you learn to dive?
I was seven when I learnt to dive. I was spotted at a talent ID day at my school.
What is your best event?
3m Synchro. Me and my partner Becky Gallantree, have just won silver in the Diving World Series in Edinburgh, and we competed in this event at the Olympics too.
What is your favourite event?
Both the Synchro and Individual on the Springboard.
What is your greatest diving achievement so far?
Competing at the Olympic Games, which was amazing and something I will never forget.
Do you know how many titles or medals you have won?
I’ve won a World junior silver medal and two World Series medals.
What is your best moment in diving?
Standing on the boards at the London Aquatics Centre and hearing 17,500 people screaming for us was one of the best things I have experienced.
And you’re worst diving moment?
At British Champs this year when I just missed gold in the Individual by less than one point, which was tough.
What was your first overseas or international event?
The Moscow Grand prix in 2010.
What are your sporting ambitions?
To compete in as many Olympics as possible.
Do you have any brothers or sisters?
Yes, one younger brother
Is he involved in swimming?
He is a rugby league player.
Does he have any annoying habits?
IHe just likes to wind me up.
Do you have any hobbies apart from diving?
With my exams and training there’s not much more time left, but I like to see my friends and my boyfriend.
What music, singers or bands do you like?
I listen to anything. Just something that is chilled.
What is your favourite TV programme?
Friends. My favourite character is Chandler.
What was the last film you saw?
White Chicks, it was really funny.

Food – Chinese. Drink – Robinson’s Fruit and Barley

Do you come from a sporting family?
No not really. Not sure where my diving genes came from.
What makes you so good at your sport?
Dedication, hard work and believing in myself.
Do you have any superstitions?
I believe in Karma.

If you were stranded on a desert island, which three things would you most want (apart from a phone)?
My iPod, my best friend, and an endless supply of grapes.
What would be your ideal job or career apart from diving?
Something to do with forensics.
If you won the lottery, what would be the first thing you spent money on?
I’d buy a house in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Yes, a fish.
If you came back as an animal in a future life, what would you like to be?
Any advice to young up-and-coming athletes?
Always give it your best shot and 100% every training session, and if you don’t enjoy it, there’s no point in doing it.
