Jack Laugher became the first British diver to win back-to-back World Series titles with 3m Springboard gold at the third leg of the FINA/NVC Diving World Series in Kazan, Russia.
Competing at the venue where he will aim to land his first World Championship medal this summer, the 20-year old came into the final with the highest total from semis, then claimed gold by nearly 30 points in the final.
Laugher – who trains at City of Leeds – scored 106.40 for his penultimate dive, the forward 4 ½ somersaults with tuck, and finished on 546.40 overall with Olympic champion Ilya Zakharov taking silver on 516.70.
Having also won gold at the previous leg in Dubai, the young Brit will go for a hat-trick of victories at next weekend’s British leg at London Aquatics Centre.
Rebecca Gallantree was also in finals action on day two in Russia, finishing fifth in the women’s 3m Springboard.
The 30-year old improved on her semi-final tally of 309.90 to score 319.35, finishing just over 15 points shy of bronze.
