Bridgefield enjoyed a debut to remember as they claimed victory in the U15 ASA National Age Group Water Polo Championships.
The Liverpool-based club were the only team to win all their games at the Championships in Manchester, eventually taking the title with a 2-1 defeat of Scottish side Caledonia in the final.
The two pairs also played in the group stage, with Bridgefield winning that game 6-4, before making their way to the final with knock-out round victories over Cheltenham (16-3) and City of Manchester A (7-4).
"I am so proud of the whole team for being able to hold onto our lead in the end," - Matthew Kendall.
Bridgefield captain Matthew Kendall scored 10 goals and was named MVP for the tournament while Michael Hampshire also bagged 10 for the winners.
“I am really excited for our team,” said Kendall. “We worked really hard over the first half.
“There was a lot of fast swimming and it was quite tiring so I am really glad we came through in the end.
“We were really lucky to score our second goal and I am so proud of the whole team for being able to hold onto our lead in the end.”
City of Sheffield defeated City of Manchester A by 5-4 to claim bronze for the second consecutive year while Ealing’s Yalin Gulen was top goalscorer for the competition with 18 goals.
