Michael Gunning starred for London Aquatics Centre Performance Squad as he grabbed four golds at the 2015 London Winter Championships.
The 21-year old opened his account with 200m Butterfly gold in the first session before adding the 400m Freestyle and 100m Butterfly titles in session two and the 200m Freestyle crown on day two at London Aquatics Centre.
Slicing more than eight seconds off his time from last weekend’s Manchester International Meet, Gunning was the only swimmer to duck under two minutes in the 200m Fly, taking the title in 1:59.56 ahead of his brother Luke in 2:01.83.
Efforts of 54.95 and 1:49.34 ensued for victories – again ahead of Luke – in the 100m Fly and 200m Free, while the London swimmer was more than 16 seconds clear as he won the 400m Free with a 3:53.38 heat swim.
While Gunning was the only swimmer to claim four golds, Georgina Boyle, John Britton and Eva Gliozeryte all swept to gold hat-tricks.
British Championship finalist and Commonwealth Youth Games gold medallist Georgina Boyle was the quickest of the three, ducking under two minutes for the first time in the short course pool as she won the 200m Freestyle title in a PB 1:59.25.
Two more PBs followed for the 16-year old Chelsea & Westminster swimmer as she clocked 2:16.46 for the 200m Fly crown then an impressive 4:15.74 heat swim for 400m Free gold.
Ealing swimmer Britton powered home in 2:14.99 for a 2.5 second PB for victory in the 200m Breast, before efforts of 2:04.54 and 4:26.63 secured him the 200m IM and 400m IM crowns respectively.
Britton’s Ealing teammate Gliozeryte secured her victory in the sprint events, setting 25.95 for gold in 50m Free before 56.86 and 1:02.04 efforts in the 100m Free and 100m Back respectively.
