Hannah Randall captured an elusive Solo gold on day two of the 2015 ASA National Age Group Championships in Gloucester.
The 18-year old, who won the senior national title in May this year, scored 143.3351 to land Solo gold for the first time at a NAG Champs.
Randall has been one of the best synchronised swimmers in the country for a number of years, but hasn’t participated in the domestic Solo event at NAGs for the past two seasons, instead competing in the invitational events as part of the British team.
But having won the senior national title earlier in the year, the Rushmoor swimmer added the 15-18 Yrs NAG crown in Gloucester with her performance of a new Solo routine to Christina Aguilera’s ‘Bound To You’.
Randall scored 72.5333 for her routine with Reading Royals’ Emma Critchley – who has been competing and training as part of the British Duet this season – the only other swimmer to beat the 70 point marker on the day.
Critchley, who was also performing a new routine choreographed in the weeks leading up to the Championships, received 71.9333 to take silver with a tally of 140.3905.
The 16-year old was performing her routine to Sia’s ‘Soon We’ll Be Found’ for the first time at a competition, and admitted she will now turn her attentions to improving her score for the 2016 ASA Championships, being held in Nottingham in April.
City of Leeds’ Rebecca Richardson, who competed with Randall and Critchley with the British team at the European Games earlier this year, finished third, scoring 69.1000 for her routine and 136.3973 overall.
Among the other winners on day two in Gloucester were Reading Royals’ Mimi Gray and Alyssa Basinger in the 12&Under Duet, and City of Bristol Kate Shortman in the 13 – 15 Yrs Solo.
Shortman and her Duet partner Isabelle Thorpe were more than 10 points clear in the Solo competition, both impressing to score over 70 points for their routines.
Shortman ultimately defended her title from 12 months ago, scoring 71.3667 for her routine and 144.4334 overall while Thorpe repeated her silver from last year with 70.8333 for her routine and 141.9277 overall.
