The new-look British Gas GBR Synchronised Swimming team’s winter training gave them confidence for their first time competing together at an international competition. The team worked hard with a training camp at the London Aquatics Centre, and preparation camp in Ostia, Italy. They were then ready to demonstrate everything they had learnt, on the international stage at the French Open in Paris.
Over the three-day meet in March, the ten-strong team competed in the Duet Free, Team Free and Combination.
With a performance of the Dolls routine (used at the 2011 World Championships) the team finished an impressive fifth in the Free Combination. The routine includes complex figures and begins with a baby catch from the side of the pool!
The Team Free routine was new choreography with a theme of magic, and proved a success giving the Brits eighth place overall.
The third event was the Duet Free, where Genevieve Randall and Amy Campbell reached the final with a score of 78.7333. The pair performed the same choreography as the Olympic Duet of Jenna Randall and Olivia Federici, coming in 13th with the same score as the qualifying round.
The team are: Genevieve Randall, Amy Campbell, Jodie Cowie, Jorja Brown, Sophie Randle, Imogen Smith, Emily Randall, Emma Critchley, Chloe Shortman and Danielle Cooper.
