Honor Grimes has become one of the leading British players in world water polo during 2015.
Having won Commonwealth gold with the England squad in 2014, Grimes secured a playing contract with Spanish side La Latina this year, moving to Spain to play and work part-time as a teacher.
She returned to the national set-up in August this year, scoring in every game for the British team at the World U20 Championships in Volos, Greece, including a hat-trick against the hosts.
Grimes was rewarded for her progress in 2015 by being named Water Polo Performance Athlete of the Year at the ASA Aquatics Awards in November.
What have been your favourite memories from 2015?
I think my favourite would have to be winning the ASA Water Polo Performance Athlete of the Year award in November. Also, being the top goal scorer for Great Britain in the World Championships in Greece was incredible.
But returning to Spain to play water polo and to teach English to little children is an awesome experience which I'm still doing today.
Tell us about your plans for the festive period
I’m flying home the day before Christmas Eve to spend the holidays with my family, watch Christmas films like Elf, eat chocolate and take naps.
Then I’m planning to have a huge New Year’s party with all my family and my boyfriend, who is flying over especially.
What are you hoping to find under your Christmas tree?
Hopefully presents! But the winning ticket for the Lotto Euromillions would be nice too.
What’s your favourite part of Christmas dinner?
Without a doubt, my dad’s carrots and swede - no one else does it better! It's not Christmas without it.
Are you making any New Year’s resolutions?
I love my sleep, so I would have to say to take more naps.
What are you looking forward to most in the year ahead?
I’m looking forward to continuing water polo training, whether it be in Spain while teaching English, or back in England alongside studying.
I love my sleep, so my New Year's resolution will have to be to take more naps!
I’m excited to see what the year ahead brings!
