Double World Champion James Guy will get his 2016 season up and running next week as he travels to Antwerp for the Flanders Speedo Cup.
James will be looking to start this Olympic year with a bang, preparing for the British Championships in April, where qualification for this Summer's Rio Olympic Games can be earned.
The British team, consisting of a mix of 34 junior and senior athletes, will travel to the Belgium city, to compete on 23 and 24 January. For Olympians Fran Halsall and Liam Tancock, the meet will be a chance to assess their goals for the year, whilst offering an opportunity for younger athletes to test the waters of overseas competition.
The Flanders meet provides another strong opportunity as part of an important overall race strategy for our swimmers
“The Flanders meet provides another strong opportunity as part of an important overall race strategy for our swimmers,” said British Swimming National Performance Director Chris Spice.
“These events allow us to practice our identified process goals that are important for progression this season.
“For the vast majority of the squad this will be their first hit out of the year while they’re very much still in the middle of a big block of training as they prepare to meet the goals that have been set for 2016.”
