Jay Lelliott kicked off his 2016 with a seventh place finish on the opening day of the Austin Grand Prix in USA.
With a world class field assembled in Texas, the 20-year old Bath swimmer comfortably made the final of the 400m Freestyle, progressing fourth fastest from the heats in 3:53.10.
Lelliott, who is World University Games champion over 400m Free, took his time down to 3:52.77 in the evening session.
The University of Bath swimmer also chipped more than half a second off his 100m Free PB as he placed 61st from the heats in 51.85.
University of Loughborough swimmer James Wilby was the only other Brit to secure a top 10 finish on the opening day, placing 10th in the 200m Breaststroke in 2:15.44 while Dan Wallace and Charlie Attwood also made the ‘B’ final of the 200m Breast, finishing 12th and 15th respectively.
