Plymouth Leander’s Ben Proud continued his excellent run of form from the close of last year at the weekend, grabbing two golds and a silver at the Euro Meet in Luxembourg.
Ben powered his way to victory in the 50m Freestyle, clocking in at 21.95 and a speedy 23.26 secs for the 50m Butterfly, breaking the meet records for both events in the process. Ben completed his medal haul with a silver, finishing second to Velimir Stjepanovic of Serbia in the 100m Freestyle.
“That’s the first time I’ve ever been under 22 mid-season. I’m really pleased with this – and especially doing it in January.”

Strong swims from Leander’s Laura Stephens in both the 100m and 200m Butterfly earned her a place in both A finals, whilst Darren Lim reached the final in the 100m Free, finishing in a time of 51.23.
The ASA East Midlands Region were also represented well, with Candice Hall finishing seventh in the 200m Backstroke final. Candice joined her teammates Alex Wray, Charlie Humphries and Abigail Burr for the Mixed 4x100m Freestyle final, where the team also finished in seventh place.
