ASA Open Water Performance Athlete of the Year Jack Burnell became the first British athlete across all sports to qualify directly for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics when he finished fifth in last Summer’s World Championship 10km marathon swimming event in Kazan, Russia.
Jack earned his first international stripes back in 2010, finishing fourth in the 1500m Freestyle at the 2010 European Junior Championships in Helsinki. Two years later, he landed his first podium finish at the British Champs in the same event, grabbing bronze, before turning his attention to open water for the 2013 season.
Since discovering his talent for open water swimming, Jack has gone from strength to strength in the 10km event, and with Rio just a few months away, there are undoubtedly exciting times ahead for Jack.

Tip For The Top
You need to have faith and a relentless drive to succeed every day, not just the days you feel like it. When someone says you can’t do something, you should see that as a challenge not an obstacle. There is no elevator to success; you have to take the stairs!

I am a big lover of all food and always love to try new things, but if you put a bar of chocolate in front of me it would not last long, that’s all I am saying!

As strange as it sounds, I love work. I love coming up with new business ideas. I set up and run a garment production company and I just love working on that, going to meetings and creating business plans to grow the company, making it bigger and stronger. But when I am not working I love to watch football and boxing with friends and family. I also love a game of snooker with my dad, it always gets very competitive!
Here's wishing Jack a successful 2016!
