Speedster Fran Halsall stormed to victory in the 50m Free at the third and final leg of the Golden Tour in Marseille this weekend.
Halsall’s time of 24.23, her fastest 50m time since 2014, represents her 5th fastest time in the event and her quickest ever swim outside trials or a major meet, beating the powerful Swede Sarah Sjostrom by 0.3 in the process.
Halsall also impressed in the 100m Free, touching in a time of 54.40, taking silver behind her rival Sjostrom, a situation which was then repeated in the 50 Fly, finishing in 25.60 for a second silver medal.
GB teammate Rachael Kelly was fifth in the same 50m Fly final in a time of 26.69 and picked up a silver medal for her time of 58.11 in the 100m Fly.
James Guy was in fine form as he took gold in the 400m Free in a time of 3:47.96, with teammates Daniel Jervis and Ieuan Lloyd also both in the final.
Guy missed out on gold in the 200m Free by just 0.02 seconds, coming home in a time of 1:47.67 just behind Jeremy Stravius of France. Although a little off his fastest, Guy’s performances provide an encouraging and exciting prospect for the upcoming Olympic trials, now just weeks away.
More medals for GB
Lizzie Simmonds showed strong form in the 100m Backstroke touching in 1:00.23 for second place, while her 2:10.08 in the 200m secured bronze. Fellow Brit Georgia Davies picked up a silver medal in the 50m Back in a time of 28.28, just ahead of Simmonds who added another bronze to her medal haul.
