This weekend’s Edinburgh International Swim Meet at the Royal Commonwealth Pool will see several British stars in action from March 11 - 13, hoping to fine-tune their race tactics and continue towards peak form, with the all-important qualification for Rio taking place next month.
World Champion Adam Peaty will be racing in the 50m, 100m and 200m Breaststroke events, where he will undoubtedly face stiff competition from fellow Brits Ross Murdoch, Michael Jamieson and Andrew Willis.
Sprint ace Ben Proud, who broke his own 50m British Record just last month only hours after stepping off the plane from a training camp in Florida, will be racing in the 50m and 100m Free, and also the 50m Butterfly.
The men’s 100m freestyle is too close to call. Four of the swimmers have broken the 49 second barrier this year and should the winner not be drawn from amongst Proud, Sebastiaan Verschuren of the Netherlands, Calum Jarvis or Duncan Scott, then Robbie Renwick will hope he can steal it.
Hannah Miley and Aimee Willmott will be fighting for the top spot on the podium in both the 200m and 400m IM, with Siobhan-Marie O’Connor likely to be amongst the medals in the 200m too.
The 100m Free is set to be a thriller, with O’Connor looking to challenge Ranomi Kromowidjojo of the Netherlands for the crown.
Jess Fullalove will be hoping to continue her winning ways after picking up a trio of gold medals in the Backstroke events at last weekend’s International Meet in Berlin. Fullalove will have to hold off Bath’s Lizzie Simmonds and also Mie Nielsen of Denmark if she wants to add more gold to last week’s haul.
Commonwealth champion Jazz Carlin of Bath, is favourite to claim victory in the 200m, 400m and 800m Freestyle.
