Freestyle queen Jazz Carlin was one of the stars of the show at the 2016 British Championships in Glasgow, bagging a hat-trick of gold medals in the 200m, 400m and 800m Freestyle.
Last week, Commonwealth and European champion Jazz was named as a part of the 26-strong Great Britain team for this summer’s Olympics in Rio, as well as for next month’s European Championships at the home of the 2012 Olympic Games, the London Aquatics Centre.
AquaZone caught up with an ecstatic Jazz following the Olympic team announcement, to find out how she’s feeling about the exciting year ahead and her Olympic debut…
How do you feel?
“Yeah, on top of the world. I think it’s such an incredible feeling. It’s not really sunk in yet. It’s really nice to be officially on that team and have that confirmation. It’s going to be a really exciting few months ahead.”
What are you looking forward to most about going to Rio this summer?
“I think being at an Olympic Games. It only comes round every four years so you know it’s going to be exciting. It’s where all the sports come together, everyone wants to be at their best and it’s the pinnacle of most sporting careers. So I’m obviously excited to be there and I’m going to be doing everything I can in training and pushing on for Rio.”
If you could meet any Olympian past or present, who would it be?
“Probably Usain Bolt. I’d love to meet him. I just think he’s incredible and he does the 100m which is probably the most exciting. Everyone wants to watch him and see how he’s doing.”
Do you have any rituals going into a race?
“I always do the same warm up and follow the same routine. I’m always really organized. I like to keep the timings to an exact point and make sure I’m on time.

"But I don’t have any set things because sometimes things change and you just want to be able to stay relaxed and focused on the race.”
What are you looking to get out of Europeans in a few weeks?
“The European Championships is so exciting. I’m lucky enough to be an ambassador for this year’s Europeans. Being in London, it’s a home competition for us so it’s going to be so exciting. I think the home crowd support is really going to lift that GB team. I think everyone will want to be swimming fast leading into Rio and it’s just an exciting time for everyone leading into the Olympic Games.”
Jazz will be in action at the LEN European Aquatics Championships at the London Aquatics Centre from 16 - 22 May.
