Manchester Aquatics Centre was the host for the British Gas ASA U15 Water Polo Championships, and the teams involved did not disappoint in producing an action-packed weekend of top performances.
The Boys final was between last year’s bronze winners Sedgefield (County Durham) and City of Sheffield who both produced clean sweeps in their group matches.
In an intense match, both teams started strongly with Sheffield leading by one goal at the half way point, but it was Sedgefield who stayed the strongest coming back in the second half to take the win 6-4.
The 3rd place play-off was also a closely fought event, with Watford edging out Caledonia for a 7-6 victory to take the bronze.
In the Girls competition, defending champions City of Manchester faced six other teams in a round-robin event, including their local rival City of Liverpool.
Manchester produced strong wins against most of their opponents, the biggest goal difference coming against Cheltenham (19-1) with a narrow win against Liverpool (2-1) and a draw with Paignton (Devon).
With some tough competition and a close top of the table, Manchester succeeded in defending their crown, with Paignton and Liverpool taking silver and bronze respectively.
